Camp was started by Rod and Catherine Jameson and continues with the next generation, Ross and Debby Jameson. The 3rd and4th generations are now participating in our camp operation.
Rod and Catherine moved to this site in 1942 and started out with no electricity or phone operating a year-round program for boys only. By 1956 the program had become summer camp with boys and girls. The swimming pool was the first thing they built, not realizing how complex that would be. It took from 1970-78 to build the dam and lake. Construction continues and improvements never cease.
The purpose of the ranch has always been to provide children with a valuable experience. And kids and staff have helped build everything on the ranch, from the concrete blocks that make the barn, the dam that makes the lake to the new roofing on the new sleeping areas.
This is what makes JRC a unique and wonderful place. Pride--yes! A sense of accomplishment --yes! Each camper experiences something special from helping run and build the ranch.
Grown-up campers are now sending their children and grandchildren to camp. They love to swap stories about how things have changed, and not changed at JRC.
The third and fourth generation of Jamesons are also helping run the ranch. Erica, Mia, Jeremy, Michael and Arianna all grew-up on the ranch. Arianna keeps excellent care of the chickens each day. Erica Jameson is an assistant director and head of the horse operation. Mia Jameson Rudd and her husband, David, live full time on the ranch. Greatgrandaughters Emiliana and Natashya are thriving on the ranch, Palie Brewer is here all summer.
Mia and David Rudd are living full time on the ranch. Mia is head cook and does office work and David is a ranch hand in the off season.
Michael and Marie now live nearby in Bakersfield and visit frequently with Jada and Isaac and new one Colton.
Jeremy lives in northern California near Dos Rios working for a wood mill. We welcome Gina , Jeremy’s fiance and her two kids Bryona and Daniel to the family.
Camp has always been a quality place for kids. That is why we keep it small and rustic, so we can provide something special and different with quality for every person who comes here.
