CUSTOMS AND POLICIES
All of our staff at Jameson Ranch Camp are influential role models to children. We take this responsibility seriously. Your actions and appearances set standards for campers and influence their lives. Our customs and policies were developed to provide the best possible wholesome environment for our campers and staff. As in any community, some expectations for the sake of the group may infringe on your personal freedom. Our intent is not to interfere with your personal life, but rather to insure a happy, constructive, and meaningful group experience for all members of the camp community. Read these policies carefully and be willing to conform to all of these standards for the summer before applying.
- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES - The use or possession of alcoholic beverages of any kind is strictly forbidden in camp or on camp trips. It is expected that no one will return from time off showing the effects of alcohol use.
- SMOKING - There is to be no smoking or use of any tobacco products by staff or campers on the camp property or on any program away from the camp property.
- DRUGS - The use or sale of any illegal substance is prohibited at any time or at any place while under contract with Jameson Ranch. Any use of or personal involvement with illegal drugs at any time will be considered grounds for immediate dismissal. You will be subject to drug testing during your employment here.
- OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE - Offensive language is not permitted at camp by campers or staff. The ability and desire to help children overcome offensive language is a necessary quality for staff members. Tasteless jokes have no place at camp.
- PERSONAL APPEARANCE AND HYGIENE - Jameson Ranch is a working mountain ranch and clothes do not need to make a fashion statement. Personal hygiene needs to conform with normal standards of living in a group setting. Anything that would be inappropriate for young children to exemplify is inappropriate at camp. Piercing (other than ears), tattoos that are visible, extreme hair styles or over revealing clothes are not accepted as positive role models to children and therefore not permitted at camp.
- RELATIONSHIPS - Camp is a great place to make friends and develop positive relationships with campers and other staff. It is understood that the needs of the campers are placed first. Close or intimate relationships between staff members require discretion and sensitivity to the needs of the community. Dating may take place during time off away from camp. There is to be no overt display of exclusive affection between staff or campers. Personal affairs of all kinds must be left outside the camp. It is inappropriate to discuss personal intimate relationships with campers.
- PARTICIPATION - Full, enthusiastic, and whole-hearted participation is part of the job of being a staff person at JRC. This means that from getting up on time in the morning to being present at “all camp” activities, you are expected to contribute. Camp is for the campers, and your full participation helps create the positive environment that benefits everyone at camp.
- INTEGRITY - We are a team. Being honest, doing what you say, being on time, and following through are all part of teamwork. Your attitude and your actions will reflect on the entire camp and its effectiveness.
- RELIGION - All major faiths are represented at camp, and campers are expected to go home with the religion they came with.
- TIME OFF - What you do on your time off is your business so long as it does not reflect negatively on camp. You will be getting some time off during rest periods or evenings. You are free to use this time as you wish, although please don’t use your car after dinner.
- DAY OFF - You will get one day off (24 hours) 9 of the 10 weeks of camp plus a day after orientation. Days off during camp start in the afternoon and end in the afternoon of the following day. You have the option of being a camper for your day off (participating in the program areas as a camper) or camping out on the ranch (we will provide you with food). At the end of your day off, you are expected to be back on time and ready to go.
