“The magic of JRC is that it accomplishes a dual purpose: bolstering kids to become more independent and mature while also extending the innocence of childhood a bit longer.”

“JRC gives kids a break from modern, digital life and immerses them in a rural setting and the hard work and satisfaction that comes from getting things done on a ranch. They love the scheduled life, piggy duties, building stuff, and fixing things. We should all be so lucky.”

What Families Say

The letters and messages we receive from families after each session are one of the great privileges of this work. They range widely — and that range tells the real story of JRC.

Some parents write about children who arrived home unrecognizable in the best way: more confident, more open, more grounded than they'd ever seen them. Others write about something quieter — a child who ate dinner and actually talked about their day, or who handled a frustrating moment at school the following week without falling apart.

We've stopped being surprised by either kind of letter. Both describe real growth. Both describe children who experienced something at JRC that stayed with them.

“JRC creates a fun, inclusive, supportive environment for children to be their best selves while developing and navigating social relationships and practicing independence.”

“JRC does a great job building a community. Our son truly feels like this is a special place, away from the world.”

“JRC cares about their campers.  This is evident in our daughter’s growth over the past nine years.”

“JRC has made a very special place for community and connection. There is a deep connection to one’s self, nature, and to others...We cried when we saw the whole camp singing together. Boys and girls were swaying with their arms around each other and it was total magic ”
